What is a Bypass Oil Filter? A bypass oil filter is a secondary oil filter that works in conjunction with the factory supplied full flow oil filter. The factory filter is great at removing large particles that could cause catastrophic engine damage. The full flow filters are great at removing particles in the 30 micron and larger range. (AMSOIL's full flow filters are great at removing particles in the 20 micron range and larger). For reference, the human hair is roughly 75 microns in diameter. But, what about smaller particles? How big does a particle have to be to cause wear? Particles in the 5 to 25 micron range are responsible for the majority of wear in today's engines. As you can see, the full flow oil filter, even AMSOIL's, will allow particles smaller than 20 microns to pass through. The AMSOIL Bypass oil filter will efficiently filter out particles down to 2 microns in size, leaving your oil "super cleaned" and void of any wear causing particles. We have started the preliminary steps to get the AMSOIL bypass oil filter installed on our 2020 Entegra Accolade. The Accolade is built on the Freightliner S2RV chassis and has the Cummins ISB 6.7 Turbo Diesel. The photos below show where we will mount the filter assembly, using a custom fabricated mounting bracket. The bracket will attach to the back side of the windshield washer fluid reservoir mounting bracket. As indicated by Freightliner, drilling holes in the frame rails is not allowed, so we needed to attach to existing mounts.
